Advocates Call on State Leaders to Fight for North Carolinians’ Health Care

Updated: Mar 2, 2020

Decision in health care repeal lawsuit could cause millions with pre-existing conditions to lose insurance

In late December, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the Trump administration in Texas vs. United States, a partisan lawsuit aiming to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If the health care repeal lawsuit is successful, it will have a devastating impact on North Carolinians, particularly the over 4 million North Carolinians with pre-existing conditions who could lose their access to quality, affordable health insurance.

Last year, Sen. Thom Tillis failed to sign on to a Senate resolution that would reverse the administration’s support of the lawsuit.

On Friday, January 17, North Carolina advocates will gather for a press conference to share their stories of obtaining health care through the ACA and what loss of coverage would mean for them and their families. They will call on Sen. Tillis to stand up for his constituents and urge the Supreme Court to take action on the case immediately.
