FRIDAY: In the Face of Social Distancing, Advocates Gather on Instagram Live

First Installment of Instagram Live Series to Take Place on Friday at 11am

Raleigh, N.C. – In response to the continued social distancing guidance, North Carolina health care advocates are organizing virtual events to continue their advocacy. Today, Piedmont Rising announced an expansion of their virtual events to include an Instagram Live (IG Live) series talking with advocates, elected officials, experts, and frontline workers about the critical need for affordable, accessible health care in North Carolina.

The first in this new series of IG Live conversations will take place on Friday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m with state Rep. Sydney Batch (NC-37) to discuss where we stand in the fight to expand Medicaid and why Medicaid expansion is so critical, especially now in the middle of a global pandemic.

“The threat of the coronavirus underscores the importance of access to affordable health care,” said Piedmont Rising Executive Director, Casey Wilkinson. “To keep our participants and our staff safe, we are following the recommendations of Governor Roy Cooper and holding virtual events online for the foreseeable future. Our goal, however, remains the same. Piedmont Rising will continue to work to stop the skyrocketing costs of health care and fight for access to quality affordable care. We will continue to hold our leaders like Senator Thom Tillis and Richard Burr accountable when they vote to increase costs or take away vital protections like the Affordable Care Act.”

Other digital events will include a Virtual Town Hall series, social media campaigns, downloadable resources, and more.
