In Final Debate, Tillis Attempts to Paper Over His Record on Pre-Existing Conditions
Raleigh, N.C. - At tonight’s final debate, Thom Tillis attempted to paper over his abysmal record on pre-existing conditions, hiding behind inadequate legislation to cover his years-long crusade to undermine North Carolinians’ health care.
In fact, Tillis has voted repeatedly to end protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Tillis and his fellow Republicans have no comprehensive health care plan to protect North Carolinians, and Tillis’ pre-existing condition legislation is widely considered to be a joke because it is full of loopholes that would allow insurance companies to deny coverage.
“At tonight’s debate, Tillis again stood proudly on the side of ripping away health care from millions of North Carolinians while lying to voters about his record on pre-existing conditions,” said Piedmont Rising Executive Director Casey Wilkinson. “Tillis voted repeatedly to end pre-existing condition protections for 1.7 million North Carolinians and to strip away health care for 600,000. Now he is desperately trying to distort that record, hiding behind Republican legislation that actually creates new loopholes to allow insurance companies to cancel coverage and raise costs. This November, voters will put an end to Tillis’ health care lies and vote him out of the U.S. Senate.”
