NC Advocates to hold town hall in Elizabeth City to highlight the need for affordable health care

Updated: Mar 2, 2020

Advocates gather in response to Tillis’ refusal to fight for North Carolinians’ health care and defend the Affordable Care Act

Raleigh, N.C. — Senator Thom Tillis still refuses to defend the Affordable Care Act — so advocates are speaking out and fighting back.

On Thursday, February 20, Piedmont Rising will host a health care town hall in Elizabeth City to call attention to how health care repeal and skyrocketing costs threaten North Carolinians’ health and wellbeing. The group will provide participants with a North Carolina update on health care in the state, as well as an open forum to ask questions and identify community concerns. Attendees are encouraged to share their health care stories to further humanize this important issue for North Carolina families.

WHAT: Elizabeth City Health Care Town Hall

WHO: Hosted by Piedmont Rising

WHERE: Elizabeth State University

Ridley Student Center, Room 216

1704 Weeksville Rd.

Elizabeth City, NC 27909

WHEN: 6:00 - 7:00 PM

“Despite North Carolina families repeatedly asking Senator Tillis to protect their health care, he has proven that his agenda has been all about taking health care away and enriching big pharma while they raise costs on North Carolinians,” said Piedmont Rising Executive Director Casey Wilkinson. “Since Senator Tillis won’t host public events with us, we’re here to remind him that his constituents are opposed to the repeated attacks on health care. We will continue to raise the voices of North Carolinians and their efforts to protect their care — until all of our voices are heard.”

Throughout the month of February, Piedmont Rising will join grassroots efforts across the state to promote lower drug costs and an end to the assault on North Carolinians' access to better care.

February town hall meetings will be held in Elizabeth City, Durham, Morganton, with 14 additional locations, including Nags Head, N.C., to be announced through July.

The event is free and open to the public. You can learn more about the town hall and RSVP at http://bit.ly/31V6PII.
