Nominee to Second-Highest Court in the Nation is “Outspoken Critic of the Affordable Care Act”
Judge Walker supports health care repeal, which would strip coverage and spike costs during a pandemic
RALEIGH, N.C. — As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote this week on the nomination of 37-year-old U.S. District Judge Justin Walker to fill a lifetime appointment on the second-highest court in the land -- the court where four current U.S. Supreme Court justices worked before ascending to the nation’s highest Court -- Piedmont Rising Executive Director Casey Wilkinson issued the following statement:
“Instead of addressing the catastrophic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Senators Tillis and Burr are preparing to confirm Judge Justin Walker to a lifetime position where he could deal a deadly blow to the health care and well being of millions of North Carolinians.
“It is unthinkable that the Senate would confirm circuit court judges bent on taking away access to health care. We need Senators Tillis and Burr to reject Judge Justin Walker and protect our health care and our rights.”
Background
According to Politico, “Walker penned an op-ed in 2018 that dubbed the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Obamacare as ‘indefensible.’”
