NC'ians Urge Senators to Support Resolution Condemning Tear Gassing Ahead of Presidential Photo-Op
Senators Tillis, Burr Stand by Mitch McConnell as He Blocks Resolution Condemning President Trump’s Use of Force Against Peaceful Demonstrators
North Carolinians Urge Senators to Support Senate Resolution Condemning Dangerous Tear Gassing Ahead of Photo-Op with Bible
Raleigh, N.C. – Piedmont Rising Executive Director Casey Wilkinson released a statement following Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s action to block a resolution that would have condemned the use of tear gas and rubber bullets against peaceful protesters outside the White House on Monday in order to allow President Trump to walk to St. John's Church for a photo op:
“Senators Tillis and Burr failed to show leadership by refusing to condemn President Trump’s use of tear gas against peaceful protesters this week. Now is not the time for silence. We need healing and compassion -- not use of force and division, and Senators Tillis and Burr have an obligation to use their offices and platforms to condemn President Trump’s use of force on peaceful demonstrators. North Carolinians demand that our elected leaders prioritize protecting Black communities and protesters and speak out against the President when he is wrong, regardless of party.”
