NEW VIDEO: Senator Tillis Refuses To Answer For His Health Care Record

Updated: Mar 2, 2020

Tillis struggled to justify his stance on Medicaid expansion and affordable health care for North Carolinians

Raleigh, N.C. – This week, Senator Thom Tillis refused to defend his record of attacking North Carolinians' access to health care in a WBTV “On Your Side Tonight” interview where he was asked about his health care record.

In response, Piedmont Rising Executive Director, Casey Wilkinson, released the following statement:

“After leading the effort to block Medicaid expansion and voting repeatedly to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Senator Tillis seems lost. His refusal to answer whether he’s supporting expansion offers no comfort to the families whose lives depend on Medicaid for health care. North Carolina families deserve to know whether or not they will have health care, so while Senator Tillis continues to evade questions on his record, the health care of millions of North Carolinians remains in limbo."

Background:

In 2014, Senator Tillis said repealing the ACA was one of his top priorities in the Senate. Since then, Senator Tillis has endorsed and voted for repeal of the ACA seven times, gutting protections for people with pre-existing conditions, increasing premiums and prescription drug costs, and slashing funding for Medicare and Medicaid.
