Piedmont Rising Launches New Campaign to Defeat Thom Tillis this November After Senator Fails to Protect Access to Health Care
“Since our senator won’t change his policy positions, it is time to change our senator”
New Digital Ad, “Vaccines,” Backed by Six Figure Buy Marks Start of Aggressive Media, Organizing Campaign Across North Carolina
Raleigh, N.C. - After spending the last year urging Senator Thom Tillis to protect health care access for North Carolinians, Piedmont Rising today launched Piedmont Rising Action (PRA), a new project to defeat Senator Thom Tillis in this November’s election. Piedmont Rising Action’s efforts will include an aggressive paid media and organizing campaign highlighting Tillis’ record of failure as a United States Senator to protect access to health care and the harm his special interest driven agenda has caused North Carolina families.
That work begins this week as PRA launches its first digital ad, entitled “Vaccines.” The ad is backed by a $140,000 buy over two weeks.
“We’ve made clear to Thom Tillis that he should vote to protect health care for North Carolinians, but at every turn he has failed to take action in the Senate that would achieve this goal. That’s why Piedmont Rising Action is launching today -- to work every day until the November election to defeat Tillis and replace him with a senator who will actually stand up for quality, affordable health care for all North Carolinians,” said Piedmont Rising Executive Director Casey Wilkinson. “Since our senator won’t change his policy positions, it is time to change our senator, and that’s why Piedmont Rising Action will organize North Carolinians to defeat Thom Tillis this November.”
Since launching last September, Piedmont Rising has worked to educate North Carolinians about health care and empower them to advocate to Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr on expanding care and lowering the cost of prescription drugs. Piedmont Rising has hosted more than ten in-person and virtual town halls, five digital organizing events, and issued ten policy reports on health care topics. Throughout, Piedmont Rising has contacted nearly 75,000 North Carolinians to discuss affordable health care and gathered hundreds of personal stories about why this issue is so important.
It has become clear that Senator Tillis is unwilling to listen to his constituents and is fully committed to an agenda that will kick more than 600,000 North Carolinians off their health insurance, put protections for 1.7 million North Carolinians with a pre-existing condition at risk, and skyrocket the cost of care.
