URGENT: Call on Senators Tillis, Burr to Oppose Proposal to Cut Medicaid Funding

Updated: Feb 6, 2020

Block grant proposal targets cuts to Medicaid which threaten North Carolinians’ health

Raleigh, N.C. – North Carolinians have faced two back-to-back attacks on their health care in the last week—and yet, neither of their U.S. Senators have come to their defense.

Last week, the Trump administration issued guidance that will allow states to shift program funding to block grants, effectively cutting health care resources for those who need it most. Then, last night, the State of the Union offered misleading claims on the state of our health care.

In response, advocates are demanding that our elected officials step up, vocally push back against these attacks, and support tomorrow’s House vote disapproving of cuts to our health care.

Casey Wilkinson, Executive Director of Piedmont Rising released the following statement in response:

“North Carolinians and health care advocacy organizations, like Piedmont Rising, oppose the most recent proposal to convert Medicaid to a block grant model which is just another attempt to cut Medicaid. We are sick and tired of schemes like these which threaten protections for those with pre-existing conditions and kick people off of their insurance coverage. Our lawmakers are messing with our health care. We call on Senators Tillis and Burr to publicly reject this cruel and reckless proposal immediately.”
